We stayed here for one night before our jungle trek. We booked our Medan airport to Bukit Lawang transport and the jungle trek with them. From the time of booking till we left the place; Brian and his team were extremely helpful. Sarah cooked delicious dinner for the night. The place is value for money and they even provide good breakfast. Our tour guide for the forest trek was Rosyid & his assistant Theo. They were absolutely amazing and the best throughout. I could complete my trek on the last day because of their motivation throughout. We can't recommend them enough. The food that they served during trek was also really good. Rosyid and Theo went out of their way to help a random guy during the trek who was unwell and made sure to give him the medicines and took extremely good care of him till he got better and help arrived. It didn't matter to him if the guy was part of our group or no and that shows how professional and caring they are. Magic tricks by Rosyid at the campsite was very entertaining. There was also Manto who cooked extremely delicious dinner and breakfast for us and helped with the river tubing. Would definitely recommend staying at Sumatra Thomas Leaf Monkey Guesthouse in Bukit Lawang.

Ellie helped us to organise a trip in Sumatra from getting picked up at the airport to being dropped off, including activities such as jungle tour, elephant washing, lake toba, etc. Not only was she very professional during the organisation but she was also available all along in case something happened! Upon arrival at the discovery villa, we were greeted by Tyson and a delicious watermelon juice, while he walked us through the planning of the next couple days. Every guide we had was very knowledgeable ( Dany walked us through the jungle, he stopped often to show us some plants and of course the various monkeys/ orangutans) and always seemed very happy! The food was very diverse and delicious, especially the juices😋 The whole trip felt like pure holidays, we did something everyday but never felt rushed or stressed as the guides were usually flexible! Everything was absolutely amazing, we would definitely recommend staying there and take contact if there is any special requests, they are always happy to help their hosts!! We will hopefully be back one day!

The location is a perfect base for jungle trekking but the best thing is the incredible staff and the amazing food. I’m genuinely sad to leave and it feels like I’m leaving my home. Everyone works so hard to make it a fabulous experience. Beautiful property, great to hang out at, and not in the tourist area. You can get the feel of a local neighborhood. The rooms are clean and spacious.

This is a big charming, wooden house unlike anything else we saw in Bukit Lawang. It’s beautiful and has a lot of character. The location is great, up many stairs but it’s worth it. Close to nearby restaurants and ‘Jack’s Bar’ which we loved for live music and awesome cocktails in a real jungle setting. The staff are so lovely and helped us with everything we needed, they organised a trek into the jungle for us and a day trip to their conservation site where we saw lots of orangutans. Banana pancakes for breakfast were so delicious too, thank you Ridho! Highly recommend staying here!

The host is an amazing cook and offers delicious breakfast to order and other meals for purchase. The grounds are beautiful, and it was helpful to have cooking facilities and a washing machine.

From top to bottom I enjoyed the stay! Starting with the host, Jhony is incredibly hospitable. I don’t have enough kind things to say about him and how he treated me for my stay (More on him and the Orangutan trekking with him in the second paragraph). Not only budget friendly but very comfortable, especially compared to other properties in the area. You have your own private room and bathroom (the bathroom has a western toilet, which isn’t the standard around here). There is an actual shower (lots of other places close by are only bucket showers). The mattress is comfortable and the mosquito net doesn’t have any holes. The fan keeps the room at a nice temperate. It’s on a private road and very peaceful. The wifi inside the room itself isn’t very strong but 5 meters away is the lounge and eating area that has strong free wifi, and a pool table. The food is well priced and tasty! There are also lots of other nice food options close by just up the road along the stream for a variety. The orangutan trekking is probably why you are here! He will hold you large bag safely while you go on a tour and will negotiate a fair and affordable price for the tour depending on how many people you have and number of days you want to go for. He’s been a guide for over 20 years and made my 2 day/1 night experience once in a lifetime! We saw a dozen Orangutans and many other types of monkeys, he goes at your pace, he is very knowledgeable and hospitable. I spoke with many other tourists along the way, many spoke about their guides as kind but not so informative. Jhony could answer any question that I had and did things according to how I wanted to do them, ask and he will accommodate your style of trekking and monkey viewing. I stayed in other places in the area, and nowhere was the value for your money as here! Not only for basic budget guests.

Quiet guesthouse and restaurant right on the river in Bukit Lawang town centre. Loved the location. Two rooms only, which are awesome - spacious, super clean and the photos are exactly what you get. Super comfortable bed and great bathroom. Did a great overnight trek with guide Hendra based at Enter Point also.
