JamboHouse Lamu is set in Lamu, 400 metres from Gallery Baraka, 500 metres from Lamu Museum, and 500 metres from 18th Century Swahili House Museum. We loved our stay, Arnold is extremely helpful and always gives good advice. Breakfast is a 10. If we came back to Lamu we will stay here for sure.

Situated within 500 metres of Manda Beach and 500 metres of Shela Beach in Lamu, Jua House provides accommodation with seating area. Excellent stay. Lovely authentic design, super sweet staff (shout out to Amani for always helping out with a big smile), and I LOVE the idea of the tea hour, as well as the wonderful fresh homemade breakfast. We will be back!

This historical Arabian-style building is located in the UNESCO-listed town of Lamu. It is less than 300 metres from the seafront and 3 km from the white sandy beach. Sibura House is a beautiful, historic home decorated with great care in simple Swahili style. Our room was simply beautiful with old wooden furniture, shuttered windows and a balcony that looked out on the old fort and the sea beyond. It is located in the centre of Lamu Town surrounded by the homes and businesses of the local people. People live here much as they have for hundreds of years. Our hosts were warm and welcoming and full of ideas on how we could spend our days in and around Lamu. We walked in the winding streets, went sailing on a dhow and snorkeling, walked to the nearby small farm where we ate fresh vegetables from the garden. We had a wonderful Swahili meal in the centre courtyard and delicious breakfasts on the back balcony. It felt like a retreat from the real world. Go now while the area remains unchanged!

Umma House has a terrace and is situated in Lamu, within just 300 metres of Lamu Museum and 500 metres of Lamu Fort. Guests staying at this villa have access to a balcony. The house is a beautiful gem within old lamu town. The architecture is stunning, the rooms are freshened by fans and the pool is great to escape the day’s heat. The house staff is incredibly helpful and Peter was a great caretaker. We would also warmly recommend arranging a tour of the old town and of shela, as well as a boat tour if one wishes, with Abu. Abu is knowledgeable and loves his job; he is a great storyteller and a great artist (ask to see his recycled art). Walking around Lamu with him and learning about this unique place from him was a wonderful experience.

Boasting air-conditioned accommodation with a private pool, sea view and a terrace, Makubwa House is situated in Lamu. The architecture of the home is authentic Lamu style, which brings you back in to time to a bygone regal era. And Mr. Zion, the caretaker, took care of us like royalty. We had him prepare a veggie traditional dinner, which was definitely fit for a King!

Located in Shela, near Manda Beach and Mnarani House, Shiban House is a recently renovated property, featuring free WiFi, a fitness centre and terrace. The homestay features family rooms. The staff at this place were phenomenal - very attentive and went out of their way to ensure you had a comfortable stay not only at the property but in Lamu in general. Shout out to Joseph who did a particularly amazing job!

Set 300 metres from Lamu Fort, Beytsalam offers accommodation with a shared lounge, a terrace and a shared kitchen for your convenience. Complimentary WiFi is offered. The hotel was very clean and all the amenities were just as described The room was very spacious, the air condition and fan made it very comfortable. Jivanji was very hospitable and all the staff were very polite. Breakfast was served on the terrace overlooking the ocean. A good variety of Swahili goodies.
