It's an old monastery that is the hallmark of the village. The village is about one millenium years and has a fortress ruin overlooking it all. The forests and mountainous hills all around is a magic place for hikes and discovering amazing castles and churches.

Durnstein is a strange village; the old centre is attractive and interesting, but you get a feeling that it's a ghost town. It seems to exist for day trippers, and it doesn't have a life of its own. The only shops are tourist shops - no pharmacies, no grocery shops, no stationeries selling newspapers and magazines.... Some eateries close by 6pm and after that, it really is a ghost town.

Unfortunately there were some problems... .

Unfortunately there were some problems... . The WiFi inside the room did not work. I have asked twice and it was fixed but for just a few hours... so I had to use my data plan on my phone. Bed was very uncomfortable. It was a double bad but... with some board in the middle, with one side of bed being higher than the other part and squicking on every move in the bed. The only way I could shower was if I was holding the shower had in my hand..... which made it impossible to wash properly my heir and.... water was splushing from defecting shower head. Breakfast was great.... people were very nice but... I would not stay in this hotel again.

I stayed here with my wife, two young daughters, and my in-laws. We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. Everyone was so helpful and service oriented. The pool was perfect for us to relax in. The food is excellent at the restaurant and the views along the Danube are gorgeous.

Beautiful picturesque town in the Wachau valley.

Beautiful picturesque town in the Wachau valley. Lots of wineries nearby and some cute restaurants in the town itself. Very walkable. Touristy by day with people coming from Vienna but insanely quiet by night. We felt like we had the whole town to ourselves!

The room and facilities (grill, sauna) were great! We ordered the breakfast one day which was plenty of food for two people twice. We also ordered the grill package and had a lovely barbecue twice. For being so “far” from Krems and Dürnstein we found the location perfect even without a car. The bus stop is perfectly located and it comes every hour. We also walked to both Dürnstein and Krems for tourism and groceries respectively and it wasn’t difficult. Great long weekend :)

The hotel is a stunning historic building right on the Danube, filled with works of art. The owner, Mrs. Thiery, took special care for us; the restaurant has an exceptional menu, and Csaba, one of the excellent support staff, helped us with our bike program providing us with a personal lift in his car. Just a remarkable place, with caring and delightful staff (the restaurant not has a gourmet menu but the waiters are cheery & entertaining) - a total remarkable experience!

The apartment was amazing – very spacious and well-decorated. The bathroom was big and bright, with both bath and shower. The wooden chill room at the back of the apartment was a nice touch and created a cozy atmosphere. The hotel was located in the middle in the old town which was great but you have to walk down the cobbled street with your luggage from the parking lot (but it’s only around 3 minutes walk).

The location is exceptionally picturesque comprising endlessly terraced grape vines with the mighty Danube River in the foreground and deep green pine forested hills behind. The food in the region (Lower Austria) was sensational, the hosts were exceedingly friendly and welcoming, and the accommodation (fully contained apartment) was modern and immaculate. We definitely intend to return in the future.

Room was large and confortable, very new, well furnished and well equipped. The b&b has a terrace with a beautiful view on the old castle. Durnstein is a charme and all attractions are at walking distance. Service is very kind and helpful. Last but not least, breakfast was great, abundant with high quality ingredients. Gästezimmer Rolea was a great place to stay with a very welcoming family, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable. The house is in a great location on the edge of Durnstein and very walkable to the attractions in town. Breakfast was extensive (particularly for a smaller B&B), and the place is very dog friendly.

Simply an amazing setting! Right in the heart of the picturesque Wachau region. The accommodation comes with terrace gardens that overlook the village of Durnstein, and the Danube. Very peaceful. Also, there is an ancient way, adjacent to the hotel, leading up to the ruins of a castle of King Richard the Lion Heart fame.
