Now, we were there for work, and I managed to get sick, so I missed out on a few attractions, but Coona seems like a nice, friendly town. My family managed to get to see one of the observatories, and see some of the planets in real life, including Saturn's rings, so they were absolutely stoked. Apparently a new telescope will be operating there soon, with even better views.

Good sized town with lots of accommodation options.
Good sized town with lots of accommodation options. Good supermarket in town and options for fuel. Excellent bakery and other food options right in town. Great base for visits to the Warrumbungle NP and the Pilliga Scrub NP. A Dark Sky town with information easily obtained. Felt comfortable walking around town after business hours.
We'd read mixed reviews of the property, but everything about it was very positive during our five night stay. The unit was clean, the beds were comfortable and the recently renovated bathroom was terrific. And the staff were friendly and helpful, which is always a big plus. The only negative was the water, which tastes of mud, but that's a Coonabarabran issue, beyond the power of motel management to fix.
Convenient location on north western side of Coonabarabran to continue my journey north to Brisbane.
The lovely lady at the reception was friendly and check-in took only a minute.
The room was comfortable and very quiet, there was no noise from the highway after dark (I had been concerned that the trucks might be noisy at night; however, the traffic was very minimal after sunset)
The room was a good size, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was functional. Access and parking was very good. Although there are not many restaurants in town they are all an easy walk from the hotel and local food was very good. There is a large Woolworths shop within 500 meters from the hotel and the National Park is an easy drive away.
Despite the central location, The Imperial Hotel was very quiet at night. The rooms are minimalistic but comfortable - including the bed. The water pressure and shower head in the shower was good. The lounge area and kitchen was a nice touch - including a large fridge for storage.
The location was good, near restaurants and pubs. The room was nice and large with comfortable beds. I asked for a quiet room since the motel was located on the highway and it was quiet. Would stay here again if I visit Coonabarabran.
Beautiful location just outside Coonabarabran, lovely large lawn areas, and maintained bush land areas to have a walk, enjoy the bird life
Clean and comfortable
Staff were wonderful, nothing too much trouble
A new bathroom and the bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean and well kept and was the right size for me and the wife who in some hotels we stayed in didn't bump into each other.
