The owner, Santiago, was very accommodating. My drive up from Madrid took much longer than expected and he waited out for me way past my estimated arrival time.

I was on the Camino de Santiago (Madrid route) with a friend and we discovered that the pilgrim's bunkhouse/albergue had been closed in Peñaflor - despite the website stating that it was open. We searched on-line for the closest available room and Hostal Rural San Pelayo came up. Once we were dropped off, we entered an amazing building: stone walls, wood beams, fireplace with woodstove insert, art and antiques on the walls - charming. The proprietor checked us in and, when we went up to our room, were overwhelmed with its size and the appointments. I was with a friend and we both commented that this would be the type of place to take our spouses on a romantic getaway: canopy bed with great mattress, wonderful spacious bathroom - everything of the highest quality. As we were in a small town without a restaurant, we ate at the property. One of the best meals of the entire trip, with mushroom risotto, salad, pork ribs, chilled white wine, decadent desert - all prepared and served by the proprietor. In fact, one of the best experiences of our hike on the Camino de Madrid. The next morning we were given a ride back to Peñaflor and continued our hike, fond memories of our luxurious stay at Hostal Rural San Pelayo accompanying us. I would absolutely recommend that pilgrims on the Camino de Madrid try to spend a night here along the way.
Located in the town’s main square, this Hotel is a stunningly, converted 17th century abbey right in the historical town of Ampudias within the beautiful Tierra de Campos area.
Offering free Wi-Fi and under-floor heating and cooling system, La Posada de las Casitas is located in Ampudia, 16 mi from Palencia city center. The property also features a porch and a shared garden....
storage for bikes was a priority and the hotel offered us a safe room.
After a days cycling we were able to eat in their bar area.. without having to walk around town to find an eatery.
We only used the hotel as a stop over en route to elsewhere but it surprised us with its quality for the price. Quiet, comfortable rooms, even those facing the road at the front.
I just needed a basic hotel to spend the night and this one was fine. Well located for bars and restaurants. Decor was old but room was clean and comfortable
