The location of this house is so beautiful, there is nothing around except fields, few horses, perfect get away! The house itself is stunning in every way, gorgeous decor and extremely clean. Contains everything you could ever need in the kitchen (inc salt, pepper, even a little bit of milk to keep us going). Would 100% book this again.

Perfect venue for investigating mid Wales and the Elan Valley. Small town but has everything you need for a self catering holiday, the right shops and takeaways if you want them, but if you prefer to go out and be fed, all the pubs serve food. Astonishing area with the mountains, rivers and general countryside. Couldn't ask for more

Five pubs within a stones throw of each other in the main square. My kind of town.
The Crown was excellent and recommended by three different random strangers
Best stocked co-op I’ve ever seen 😆
Friendly people in the shops and pubs.

The Triangle has good food and proper beer.
The Triangle has good food and proper beer. Also The Lamb and Flag serves a good pint of Cwrw. You must visit the 5 reservoirs whatever the weather. We only managed 2 on our 3 day visit as the weather was poor. However as it rained so much the overtopping of Claerwen dam was spectacular to see and hear.

Everything you could need is there.
Everything you could need is there. Friendly welcoming community. Excellent pubs, cafes and takeaways. Good shops. Prices very good. Lots of places to visit.localy. Remember there's no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. Everywhere is dog friendly.. We love Elan, great visitor centre, with gift shop, not overpriced and a coffee shop with great food, dog and child friendly. Great place to burn off excess energy, walk, bike,or run. Cheap parking, free hour or £3 all day. Lots of wild life and facilities for disabled people.

We came to Rhayader to go round the Elan Valley dams as we do each New Year. This time we decided to stay overnight and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in spite of the torrential rain. Whilst we enjoyed bed and breakfast at The Bear, we dined in the Crown in the evening where the food was excellent and the beer was good as well. The staff were great at the Bear and the Crown.
The Elan Valley and its dams, built to supply Birmingham with water and opened about 120 years ago, just a mile of two from Rhayader are well worth a visit to see the Victorian engineering. The Visitor Centre, as well as serving brilliant bacon baps and a cuppa, also houses a museum and shop where there is so much information about building the dams and the things that you can do in the valley like walking, cycling, bird watching and much more. We had a good time there.

Hafod Hardware shop is a must as its sells an eclectic mix of items and a visit to the tearoom by the clock tower. The only negative would be the lack of understanding of most drivers on how to negotiate the roads around the clock tower !
This place is located on the road between Rhayader village and the dams. It’s secluded and quiet. The village itself is fairly busy and noisy so the quiet is great.
Our room was at the back part of the house. Very roomy with a huge bed. Everything was clean and very comfortable, other than the bathroom.
The hosts do serve a limited menu dinner which was not outrageously priced and was quite good. Breakfast was excellent.
The hosts, including their old dog, are helpful, friendly and worth a chat.
Lovely location in the centre of Rhayader so very convenient for shopping or going out for meals. The house is set back from the road and so is very quiet. The area for parking is spacious and there was outdoor seating (suitable for meals outdoors) at both the front and back of the house. The house was very modern, nicely furnished and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The wifi worked really well too. Overall the house was outstanding value for money.
The Bear's Den was neat, spotlessly clean and as described. Location is excellent, near to local shops and bars and only an hour's walk/10 minute drive to the picturesque Elan valley. I was greatly warmly by my host, who throughout gave good communication but otherwise left me to myself.
A real gem! Very comfortable with excellent food. Steve was an excellent host, able to tell you about the history of the house and the area, also happy to arrange evening meals with local hotels if needed. Being in the centre pf Rhayader nothing is more than about a ten minute walk away.
The Bear is located right in the heart of Rhayader close to cafes and restaurants. The family room is fantastic, so spacious with a separate sitting area.
Would definitely come back for a longer stay as it’s a great base to explore this beautiful part of mid Wales.
Rhayader is a beautiful community situated near Brecon Beacons National Park. The Guesthouse is within walking distance of the town center. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, breakfast was great, staff were very engaging & helpful. We had a very nice visit.
The hotel and bar staff are very friendly and welcoming. The bar food is quick but we wouldn't eat there again. The cooked breakfast is of a good standard. The rooms are clean, tidy and furnished to a reasonable basic standard.
The waitress staff were friendly and helpful, the food was excellent as always - we have stayed here several times. No breakfast included. Great location, parking within walking distance in nearby public car park.
The hotel is fantastic
Location is right near The Elan Valley tourist information centre and there is a cycle/path just across the road that you can use to get to the centre without using a car.
The locations is fabulous, right in the middle of Rhayader - easy access to everything. There are 2 good pubs a fish and chip shop and the Ty Morgan cafe/bistro (all owned by the same people!)
Lovely room and en suite facilities were wonderful.
Breakfast was first class.
The views from the hotel are breathtaking.
The location is perfect, a short walk from all the facilities.
We enjoyed our dinner there. The room was very nice. The staff was helpful. We would go there again. The hotel is right downtown near a few shops with beautiful historic buildings.
Lovely cottage- comfortable and well equipped. Great location. Always spaces available to park on-street near property. Comfortable beds. Hot showers. Great communication from host.
very nice place to stay, one thing to bear in mind no parking at the hotel but there plenty aprox 100m away . very good value for money- I'll definitely be stay again .
