The place is fairly convenient. The room is clean and comfortable with all the amenities required for a short stay. Very polite and helpful staff, not to mention that the food is really nice! It comes with a complimentary breakfast but I had my dinner at the hotel as well and it was great.

This was my favorite hotel on this trip to Japan. Room was very comfy and had a great view from the 5th floor. Super clean and modern property. Shoes are left in lockers in reception area which keeps the carpets clean and footsteps quiet. Breakfast was included for me and there were lots of options in the buffet. Good location, about 10 minutes walking from train station and big grocery store. I used this as a base to hike sections of the Nakasendo Trail. Staff was very helpful and communicated well in English.
Guesthouse Nedoko offers accommodations in Nakatsugawa, 13 miles from Ōi and 13 miles from Enakyo Wonderland.

The location is perfect! Magome is very special and it felt very unique sleeping here and being there at night with no tourists. The design of the hotel is also very nice. Everything worked perfectly and the staff was very kind and helped us with dinner reservations and with local recommendations. The Nakansendo trail to Tsumago was a highlight of our trip and I totally recommend spending a night/s here to do it :)

We had the entire accommodation to ourselves, and this included the living room, the bedroom with bunk beds, 2 shower rooms, kitchenette and 1 toilet.
Lots of games to keep the family occupied during the stay.
Bunk beds were super cosy and comfy.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

A thoroughly lovely place, well off the beaten track. Excellent hot springs facilities. Excellent food. Wonderful place to pause and relax amid busy travels.

We stayed in Nakatsugawa in order to spend time walking on the Nakasendo Trail. It was a good home base for doing so!
It’s possible to take a cab or a bus to the post towns to start your walk, or to end it.
Nakatsugawa is also known for its abundant chestnut snacks and sweets which we sampled and truly enjoyed.
It was really nice to be in a part of Japan that has fewer tourists and is more quiet.

This is about Magome Juku - not Nakatsugawa.
This is about Magome Juku - not Nakatsugawa. Frankly whilst it's quaint, picturesque and reasonably true to form it's frankly a bit of a tourist trap and quite crowded. The buildings are almost all souvenir shops or restaurant / tea houses. With a few exceptions many are selling the same stuff, usually at higher prices than can be bought elsewhere. Glad we went but won't return

As previously reviewed, we are still annoyed that we had to argue at length with the staff (over half an hour) to have the sofa bed made up with linen. Their policy apparently is to only provide linen when there are 3 guests sharing the room advertised as 'Double Bed plus Sofa' and confirmed in writing via booking.com that I had booked a room with 2 beds. The hotel was demanding further payment otherwise my friend and I were expected to share the bed. They eventually agreed to make an exception. The air con unit also only had instructions in Japanese and we found it impossible to turn it down The room was very small and the aircon unit sounded all night as if we were flying in an airplane.

Nakatsugawa was a very pleasant town with an excellent shopping centre and good restaurants. Soba noodle seem to be a specialty in many. It was also a handy base for taking a bus to Magome for the Nakasendo Way walk to Tsumago and in the opposite direction to Ochiai, via the historic stone-paved 800m road.

Our primary reason for visiting was the walk from Magome to Tsumago. It's a lovely outing. Very enriching to see Japanese countryside after the big cities of central Honshu. The quality and restfulness of Iwasu-so was an unexpected delight.

The old town was lovely and came over as very authentic.
The old town was lovely and came over as very authentic. Be prepared to walk about 20 mins from the main station to the historic part of town. The people were lovely. I was there on a VERY rainy Monday and not a lot was open but I did find a wonderful izakaya almost immediately over the road and the food was amazing. Good base for hiking out of Magome- get the early bus to skip the crowds in the trail. Magome won’t be open but by the time you get to the end of the trail there will be a nice Japanese man with hot steamed buns ready for you.
Front desk is superb. They have nicely folded origami to give out to little children - and my daughter was delighted! The rooms were nice and clean. We have two non-connected rooms, but as it was the peak travel season, we were glad we found a nice hotel like this one. Its location was also excellent. If you stay here, you must eat at the Prince Matsuba, Nakatsugawa - just opposite the hotel! During my entire stay in Chubu, this restaurant provides the best food at the most reasonable price and great servings.
Large, traditional home with beautiful Scandinavian touches. We stayed in March, so the home was generally chilly, but the host provided many ways to find warmth - mini-splits, stoves, cozy down comforters. He was always helpful and cheerful. We had the whole place to ourselves, so the experience was like living in Japan long ago. Interesting little town, with friendly townsfolk and host. We had both supper and breakfast in town, and were sad to leave.
On of the best stay we have in Japan, very clean room, bathroom, bathroom
Everything is simple yet wonderful
Great location in this small town
Highly recommend for you that need clean moderen ryokan house
Bathroom dan toilet is sharing, but not a together bathroom so if you cannot bath with other person together, this place is perfect. Because other ryokan usually have bathroom that take bath together.
What a fantastic stay we had!!! Keiko is a fantastic host, who cooks like a dream. Our favourite stay of our 3 weeks in Japan. The room we had was spacious and spotless. We walked to Tsumago and got the bus back so stayed 2 nights rather than doing baggage transfer. Use Nakatsugawa train station and get the bus to Magome Cannot recommend this place enough.
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful part of the town, right on the Nakasendo Trail. Convenient parking. So much charm and character and the staff were lovely and super helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both amazing - definitely recommend getting these! Very comfy futon and pillow, decent sizeroom with large cupboard for bags.
Spacious apartment with our own kitchen and extremely comfortable futons (best of our trip by far!). Though there is no food available there, they were proactive in making us a dinner reservation in town. Host even hand delivered our luggage to our next hotel in Tsumago.
The hotel looks like a beautiful little village for preservation. We slept in a small house that is over 150 years old. The staff is lovely, always looking for ways to help. Dinner and breakfast were works of art.
The location couldn't be better. The hotel is small, stylish ,clean and it feels homey. Our room was simple, yet spacious & comfy with a view over the mountains.
The shared showers & toilets were very clean.
The lady of the house serves you dinner and breakfast, all homemade Japanese food and was very nice time. You get to eat with the other guest that’s staying also at the ryokan also for dinner and breakfast.
The dinner and breakfast are good. The food definitely caters to foreign tourist tastes. So if you want to try out Japanese food experience, while still staying in your comfort zone, this place is for you.
I really enjoyed my stay here, its normal old-style japanese family house so staying here was unique experience different from hotels. Also owner was very friendly and even drove me to the supermarket :-)
We were in Nakatsugawa for only one night. This hotel was located close to the station and was of very good value. Given the shared toilet, we were very happy that the hotel was very clean and neat.
A perfect location with wonderfully friendly helpful staff. We enjoyed a traditional delicious breakfast. The hostel accommodation felt more like a hotel with twin beds separated into individual bays
we loved this place, old building in beautiful old part of town, solo occupancy, living room with outlook over koi pond, good supermarket a few blocks away, great restaurant across the road.
Our host was very accommodating, he helped us make a booking for dinner and also drove a friend who was staying elsewhere back to his hotel for a small fee - that was really appreciated.
